Join Rockfon at Inter-Noise, Aug. 26-29, Chicago for a discussion on designing for acoustic sound absorption and insulation

Rockfon leading discussion at Inter-Noise 2018 on optimizing ceiling and wall acoustics

Ventura County Office of Education partnered with Rockfon to optimize building acoustics.

Inter-Noise 2018

Sharing its expertise and research findings in Optimized Acoustics, Rockfon will be presenting and exhibiting at Inter-Noise 2018, Aug. 26-29, at the Marriott Magnificent Mile in Downtown Chicago.

Inter-Noise’s 47th International Congress and Exposition on Noise Control Engineering is organized by the Institute of Noise Control Engineering of the USA (INCE-USA) on behalf of the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE).

Look–Do you see the noise leaking through the ceiling?

Rockfon’s acoustic specialist Gary Madaras, Ph.D., INCE, will present, Look–Do you see the noise leaking through the ceiling?” Drawing from his white paper of the same name, the presentation will be Mon., Aug. 27 at 3:20 p.m.

Fitting with Inter-Noise’s theme, “Impact of noise control engineering,” and its Building and Architectural Acoustics Technical Sessions programming, the presentation and paper by Madaras uses a high-definition acoustic camera to show you what others hear inside their buildings. Much like a thermal imaging camera shows differences in surface temperatures, a sound intensity probe can be used to produce high-definition color, sound mapping.

1/1
This color-mapping method helps to bridge the gap between the technical, quantitative side of acoustics and the visual side of design in an impactful and memorable way. Initial use of these visual tools with architects, interior designers, contractors, and building owners has shown that they greatly aid communication of complex acoustic phenomena. The main points of the acoustic design conversation are quickly conveyed and understood.

Visualized, optimized acoustics

Madaras has led the Optimized Acoustics Research Program for Rockfon since 2014. Through this program, he and the co-members research and test ways to optimize the acoustic performance of various types of interior wall and ceiling configurations to comply with the acoustical criteria in building standards, guidelines and rating systems in cost-efficient manners.

In his Inter-Noise paper and presentation, Madaras shows how the noise leaks essentially disappear below background sound levels when lightweight, cost-effective Rockfon Plenum Barrier Board in combination with Rockfon stone wool acoustic ceilings are installed. Also shown is how acoustic ceilings crossover from being primarily sound-reflective to primarily sound-absorptive when the Noise Reduction Coefficient is increased beyond NRC 0.80.

Exhibition

In booth #610 at Inter-Noise, Rockfon will be exhibiting our sound-absorbing and sound-blocking, stone wool ceiling products and systems. Please stop by to visit with our representatives: Andrew Glas, Brittany Damper, Mark Taylor and Alena Morrissey.

The expo hall will be open Aug. 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Aug. 28, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.; and Aug. 29, 8 a.m.- 12 p.m.
