A multicultural school
The American School of Barcelona (ASB) is an international school and private institution of reference in the city. Located in the Barcelona metropolitan area since 1979, it welcomes students from 3 to 18 years old, offering a study plan that provides students with access to both American and Spanish or international universities. Its educational system is based on the United States system, in which the most important thing is the performance of its students, personal growth and advice on everything related not only to academics, but also in social and personal aspects.
The campus has facilities of more than 15,000 square meters that include three buildings, two soccer fields, a multimedia center, a creative classroom, a gym-auditorium, an indoor gym, two basketball and volleyball courts, as well as various spaces exteriors. Its art programs are supported by two large visual arts rooms, two music rooms, and practice rooms.
A bespoke Rockfon project created with the support of a professional acoustician
Educational environments require adapted acoustic solutions to facilitate life and communication for both teachers and students. Noise levels in a classroom affect a teacher's ability to teach and a student's ability to listen, learn and think, as well as their overall academic performance. For this reason, the architects Ferran Besa i Subirats and Roger Mercadé i Aloy from the Arq 71 i Associats SLP studio have worked hand in hand with the acoustic engineer Alberto Risa from Iberacústica to achieve a result with optimal acoustic properties.
More than 2,000m2 of Rockfon acoustic solutions have been installed throughout the school grounds, adapted according to the technical requirements of each space. In the classrooms and corridors, 2000m2 of Rockfon Blanka panels have been placed to minimize noise caused by movement and improve speech intelligibility. Thanks to the excellent light reflection of these panels, more natural light has been achieved in the interiors, optimizing the well-being of students and teaching staff. The 2 music rooms, a space that, for obvious reasons, must have the best possible acoustic conditioning, have 80m2 of Rockfon Blanka Activity panels on the ceiling and walls. In the gymnasium of the sports hall, which also serves as an auditorium, 800 Rockfon Deco acoustic baffles (a product replaced by Rockfon Universal Baffle) were used to absorb impact noise, improve speech intelligibility and maximize acoustic comfort. the users.
