The interior surfaces and construction technology were completely renewed
According to Riikka Hautala, the project's responsible building designer, there were hardly any original surfaces left in the interior before the renovation. What was left was wanted and could be preserved. For example, the old fireplace and tile stoves in the American Bar were cleaned and serviced.
The hotel was built at a time when, among other things, there was no information about modern ventilation technology, so there was something to renovate in many different areas.
According to Hautala, the aim of the thorough contract was to bring Hotel Torni's building technology in line with today's requirements and at the same time renovate all surfaces to be durable. At the same time, there was a desire to improve the hotel's logistics and service facilities.
There was a particular desire to pay attention to the acoustics of restaurant and bar spaces, which is why an acoustician was involved in guiding the design. An aesthetically and acoustically sound solution was desired for the premises, and this was achieved with Rockfon Mono.
A flat ceiling of the same color as the walls is an impressive element
Solo Sokos Hotel Torni’s restaurant and bars are spread over several floors. Their interior design was carried out by the design firm Fyra, with the exception of the downstairs Irish bar, O’Malley, which was designed by the ARCO Architecture Company.
From the very beginning, the interior design plans for the premises included a flat, monochrome roof. The color of the walls continues to the ceilings, creating a large, even, impressive surface.
- The hotel’s restaurant and bar each have its own unique color scheme. The aim was to create a unified whole, where each space would be characterized by its own atmosphere. The uniform, striking color surfaces of the walls and ceilings helped to achieve this. It was great that the ceiling was also given an acoustic feature without compromising on unity and evenness, says Silja Kantokorpi, Fyra's interior designer.
Rockfon Mono met expectations
Both Hautala and Kantokorpi confirm that Rockfon Mono met expectations and the result was successful both in terms of appearance and acoustics.
- Rockfon Mono definitely met all our expectations. Although it was an old building, with the new technology, the roof came down with a smooth surface. It was important to make the roof world very clean. Through this project, we got to know Rockfon Mono well, and we have already used it in other locations, Kantokorpi describes.
