One of the largest paediatric hospitals in Poland – the "Monument – Children's Health Centre" Institute has undergone a comprehensive modernization of the Space of Registration of Specialist Clinics. Kuryłowicz & Associates architectural office is responsible for the project. Rockfon donated its acoustic ceilings Rockfon MediCare Plus dedicated to healthcare facilities as well as Rockfon Eclipse ceiling islands for this noble purpose.

The general spaces of the hospital, such as the emergency room and the clinic registration hall, are places that create the first impression and influence the overall perception of the entire experience of visiting the hospital with the patient. In such places, it is particularly important to design friendly spaces that will soften the image of the entire facility.

Registration to 30 Specialist Clinics in IPCZD with an area of over 400 m² is the first stage of an ambitious plan to modernize the entire Emergency Room, with which almost 80,000 small patients had contact in 2019 alone.

Project by Kuryłowicz & Associates

The biggest challenge for the architects developing the project: architect Aleksandra Czubaszek-Siłuch, architect Katarzyna Woźniak and architect Piotr Żabicki from the Kuryłowicz & Associates office was to reorganize the space in accordance with the needs of all users while maintaining the function of the Registration Hall.

The architecture of the children's hospital is responsible for creating the right atmosphere that will provide patients and caregivers with comfort, safety and health. A huge impact on the psychological comfort of children and adolescents staying here has the aesthetics and standard of hospital interiors.

Soothing interior climate

Registration to Specialist Clinics in IPCZD is the first place of contact between a young patient and his parents with the hospital. Architects Kuryłowicz & Associates have created a bright and friendly space here, which has a positive effect on the well-being of both small and teenage patients, and at the same time provides important information. They used materials referring to natural, maintained in earth colors.  They combined subdued colors in the green palette with the existing, renovated marble floor and wooden finishing elements.

The entire space was divided and adapted to the needs of individual groups of patients, including newborns, preschool children and teenagers. They can freely spend time here without thinking about the tests or operations that await them. In the central point of the registration hall stood a three-dimensional decoration, which is the main attraction of this place. There is also a space for a café, to which the symbol of the Children's Health Center will return - a wooden hippopotamus, as well as a new secretariat and waiting room for patients of the urological and surgical clinic.

Healthy space

Registration to 30 Specialist Clinics at IPCZD is a busy and noisy place. The capacity of the registration hall is more than 1000 patients per day. To control the noise level, acoustic ceilings designed specifically for hospitals – Rockfon MediCare Plus and decorative acoustic islands Rockfon Eclipse – were installed here.

"In the IPCZD project, Rockfon ceilings play a very important role – they emphasize the character of the interior. In the communication and sanitary spaces, white, full suspended ceilings were used, aimed at brightening the room and separating general spaces. In the rooms intended for employees and in the café, ceiling islands were used, which, in combination with properly designed lighting, are to separate places of a less official character, in the design of which we tried to escape from the "appearance of the hospital" as much as possible" - said architect Aleksandra Czubaszek-Siłuch.

Rockfon® MediCare® Plus ceilings are designed specifically for medical spaces that are covered by many requirements, including the need for thorough and regular cleaning. These ceilings do not contribute to the development of MRSA or other harmful bacteria, they perfectly protect against noise and at the same time retain basic functions and aesthetic qualities. All Rockfon products are made of mineral wool, which has a natural resistance to mold and bacteria.

"No exclusions"

According to the philosophy of Kuryłowicz & Associates, the whole has been designed as a "space without exclusions", where each type of patient will find its place. The slogan "no exclusions" also applies to employees and other users of the space.

The modernization of the hall and the Registration space is the first stage of an ambitious plan to modernize the entire IPCZD Admission Chamber. In 2022, the waiting room and registration of the Emergency Room, separating rooms for the infectious patient, ambulance room and treatment rooms (over 800 m²) await renovation. Financial resources and in-kind donations necessary to modernize the Registration and the Admission Chamber are obtained by the Virtuosa Foundation under the leadership of a world-famous violinist  Patrycja Piekutowska, who personally participates in the design, as well as acquires donors.
