Building a climate resilient future

We transform volcanic rock into stone wool and our products contribute to address many of society’s biggest climate change challenges, creating new opportunities to enrich modern living and build safer, healthier, and more climate resilient communities.

Indeed, stone wool is a versatile natural material with multiple benefits that makes it ideal for applications in buildings, industry, transportation, horticulture, and water management.

Sustainability Impact

Our stone wool building insulation save more than 100 times the energy consumed and CO2 emitted in its production in its lifetime of over 65 year.

Saving energy and reducing emissions create a significant positive impact, helping communities and society at large to build greater climate change resilience. Independent external assessments back this up.

Sustainability is central to our business strategy

Our aim is to turn sustainable development challenges into business opportunities by developing innovative, safe products that address some of the most significant societal challenges of our time. As a durable, recyclable, non-combustible, and versatile material, stone wool forms the basis of our business. Sustainability is the foundation that underpins the ROCKWOOL business model and value chain.

Since 2016, ROCKWOOL has been aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) framework. Drawing on extensive consultation with both internal and external stakeholders, we have prioritised 10 of the 17 SDGs. This was confirmed by the double materiality assessment. Gender equality (SDG 5) and Peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16) were added in 2024. We have targets related to gender equity and a target for the ratio of active employees in at-risk functions who received Code of Conduct training.

Circular Economy

Supported by Circle Economy Consulting, ROCKWOOL has developed a set of circularity KPIs to not only support disclosure in relation to CSRD and the EU Taxonomy, but also to help drive the transition along every step of the value chain. Circle Economy Consulting has developed an indicator dashboard for ROCKWOOL to measure its efforts against applying to different steps of the value chain: Circular materials, Circular use and Circular end-of-life.
