93% of Stone Wool Ceiling Portfolio Achieves Certifications in Circularity and Leading Human Health Standards

93%* of Rockfon’s stone wool ceiling tile portfolio has achieved certifications in circularity with C2C Certified® Circularity or C2C Certified® Full Scope Silver. The Cradle to Cradle Certified® standard verifies that programs like Rockcycle®, Rockfon’s closed loop recycling program, meet rigorous third-party standards and accountability.

In our pursuit of holistic sustainability, 93%* of our stone wool ceiling products now have certifications in human health with Red List Approved Declare Labels or C2C Certified® Full Scope Silver.

When architects and designers specify a ceiling system, they're making a decision that affects occupant health, environmental impact, and long-term building performance. Increasingly, that decision requires not only aesthetics and acoustics. It also requires knowing what a product is made of and understanding its overall impact on people and the planet.

Rachel Berkin, Rockfon’s Sr. Manager of Sustainability says, “At Rockfon we understand that sustainability can be a complex web of documentation. Our goal at Rockfon is to simplify the complex, with pervasive sustainability across our portfolio. The achievement of C2C Certified® Circularity continues our quest to ensure verified holistic sustainability documentation for all our products.”

Optimize with Cradle to Cradle

Cradle to Cradle Certified® evaluates products across five sustainability categories: human health, product circularity, clean air and climate protection, water and soil stewardship, and social fairness. Rockfon's three C2C Certified® Full Scope Silver products meet the standard across all five categories, representing a commitment that extends from raw material sourcing through end-of-life.

Rockfon North America has expanded its Cradle to Cradle journey by pursuing C2C Certified® Circularity and achieving C2C Certified® Full Scope Silver 5.0. Rockfon’s take-back and recycling program, Rockcycle®, launched in the North American market in 2024. Working with the Cradle to Cradle program ensures a pursuit of continuous improvement and verification on circularity pursuits and efforts. 93% of Rockfon’s stone wool portfolio has earned this achievement.

What Declare Labels Do for Specifiers

Declare, administered by the International Living Future Institute, functions as a nutrition label for building products and screens against the Living Building Challenge Red List.

Transparency of building ingredients is an important factor in material specification. For specifiers, the practical value of a Declare Label is straightforward: it eliminates the manual ingredient vetting that would otherwise fall to the project team and screens against the Red List.

Rockfon currently holds Declare labels across 16 stone wool ceiling products, including Rockfon Sonar®, Rockfon Alaska®, and a range of education, medical, data center and specialty solutions. All carry LBC Red List Approved status.

Why the Portfolio Coverage Matters

The 93% achievement of certifications and transparency labels in both human health and circularity represents Rockfon’s commitment to holistic sustainability.

For project teams, owners, and specifiers managing various sustainability initiatives and green building requirements, there is inherently less risk when specifying a product portfolio that has documented and verified sustainability across the portfolio.  This is especially important as the industry ramps up for LEED v5, which focuses on certifications and standards in each of the five Common Materials Framework Categories and prioritizes verified claims.

Since Rockfon’s entire acoustical ceiling tile portfolio is comprised of stone wool, sustainability is embedded at all performance and price levels. Sustainability is not an upgrade at Rockfon, it is a prerequisite to everything we do.
