The Pacific Coast is the most earthquake-prone region of Canada, and one of the most active in North America. To protect people and property during seismic events, the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) sets detailed mitigation requirements. Because the regulation of building construction is a provincial responsibility in Canada, it is up to each province and territory to either adopt the NBCC in its entirety or use it as a basis to develop its own local code.

To help building teams in western Canada better understand the seismic considerations for interior, suspended ceiling systems in their region, Western Exteriors’ Summer 2017 issue features an educational article by Scott Debenham, Rockfon’s Regional Sales Manager – Canada.

Suspended ceiling systems not only support life safety and property preservation during an earthquake, but also can save associated material and labor costs.

Please click here to download a copy of Scott’s article discussing proper specification and installation of ceiling suspension systems, innovative methods using seismic perimeter clips, and project-specific seismic performance requirements.

For other geographies in North America, we also offer an AIA-approved, 1-hour, in-person, continuing education course, “Seismic Requirements for Suspended Ceiling Systems.”
