Orthopedic clinic designed for healing, wellness, comfort

All Access Orthopedics’ new clinic in Hawaii features warm finishes, sustainable materials and Rockfon acoustic stone wool ceiling systems.

Adding to its existing location in Honolulu, MGA Architecture designed the new 2,200-square-foot All Access facility at The Gateway at Mililani Mauka. The clinic specializes in treating orthopedic injuries that are not severe enough to merit care at a trauma center. Its staff focuses on patients’ mild to moderate bone and joint injuries, including sports-related injuries, with no appointment necessary.

Tranquility and Healing

All Access emphasizes a soothing and calm environment for patients, an important consideration for the design of its second clinic location. Working closely with All Access physicians, the MGA Architecture team developed an efficient and flexible workflow area combining warm finishes and sustainable materials.

''The client wanted a clean, contemporary look,''explains MGA Architecture’s interior designer, Trixie Jenks, IIDA. Complementing the interior design, Rockfon Sonar® dB Square Tegular Narrow ceiling panels were installed throughout the clinic.

Rockfon ceiling panels added value to the project in a variety of ways, including:

  • Time and budget – Rockfon panels provided higher performance at lower cost than competitors’ panels. Jenks also notes that Rockfon was ''able to deliver the product in a timely manner.''
  • Aesthetics – Rockfon Sonar dB panels have an elegant, lightly textured white surface that enhances the décor and provides high light reflectance, adding to the comfortable and therapeutic atmosphere for patients and their families.
  • Acoustics – The project needed a ceiling with high sound blocking because interior partitions do not go all the way up to the structural ceiling. Sonar dB panels combine high sound isolation or blocking with high sound absorption, which helps prevent sound from traveling between adjacent rooms. This is essential for patient and staff comfort, as well as patient privacy concerns.
  • Hygiene – Medical facilities must maintain a clean environment to help prevent infection. Rockfon stone wool ceiling panels provide no sustenance to microorganisms and do not support mold or bacterial growth, even in Hawaii’s high humidity. Also supporting indoor air quality, Rockfon stone wool acoustic ceiling panels are GREENGUARD Gold certified.

''The client loves the clinic and is extremely happy with the outcome,'' praises Jenks. Rockfon also is pleased to contribute to the clinic’s healing design, comfort and functionality for All Access and its patients.
